NEW DATE - Virtual Islamic Art Museum Tour - Part II

ChaiVillageLA is pleased to be one of the few American Jewish organizations viewing this amazing institution virtually. Operating in Jerusalem since 1974, the Museum for Islamic Art is devoted to the collection, preservation, and exhibition of art objects and archaeological artifacts of Islamic art spanning the 7th to 19th centuries.

Join in this fascinating tour of the museum's galleries that emphasizes the mutual influences of Islamic art on Judaism  and vice versa, as well as the artistic similarities and differences between the two faiths. See some of the museum's most spectacular and precious objects. Learn the story behind each object--where did it come from and what influence did it have on art in the place and time in which it was created?

There is no cost and we welcome as many people as possible.

The Marie-Antoinette watch: A timeless love story

The Program for Part II: The Miraculous Tale of the World's Rarest Clocks (50-60 Min)

Tour the Sir David Salomon's Collection of Clocks (35 Min) - Considered one of the top three collections of rare and elaborate clocks in the world, the collection includes 178 clocks, of which 55 are Breguet clocks, including the “Marie Antoinette,” a masterpiece, and, it seems the most accurate clock in the world.

Hear about the theft that shook the world: who would have believed that the Museum's guard would open the door of the Clock Gallery on Sunday morning, April 17, 1983, to discover that the Queen Marie-Antoinette clock had been stolen over the weekend –- as well as more than 100 other clocks?

During our visit,  Mr. Boris Sankov, conservator of the Museum for Islamic Art's clock collection, will activate some of the unique and antique clocks in the collection.

Hear closing remarks from  Mr. Nadim Shiban
, CEO of the Museum for Islamic Art.

Q&A (15 Min).
