The 2021 Social and Political Landscape
Joanna Mendelson, the Los Angeles based associate director of Anti-Defamation League, will discuss the challenges facing us in 2021 and what the ADL is doing to address extremist ideologies, the rise and influence of conspiracy theories such as QAnon, and multiple disinformation platforms . She will address the Jan 6th violence at the Capitol in Washington DC, how antisemitism and conspiracy theories fueled the action and what might be next.
About Joanna Mendelson:
Ms. Mendelson is a member of the ADL's national team and serves as Associate Director for the Center on Extremism (COE), which combats extremism, terrorism, and all forms of hate in the real world and online. She is an expert on domestic terrorism and frequently provides testimony in criminal cases. In partnership with her COE colleagues and law enforcement partners, she has helped thwart potential extremist attacks against Jews and other vulnerable communities. In addition, she has authored, testified, and successfully lobbied in favor of legislation addressing paper terrorism tactics used by sovereign citizens. She frequently represents the ADL on national and international media outlets. She resides in Los Angeles.
