We Discover Jewish Communities Around the World - Jews of Iraq
About this event
From Babylonian Exile to Today: The story of The Jews of Iraq
There were once 150,000 Jews in Iraq. Today there are five. What happened to this illustrious community, the birthplace of the Babylonian Talmud and a rich source of cultural and scholarly life throughout the centuries? We can't go back to Baghdad today but Rahel Musleah, who can trace her roots back to 17th century Baghdad, will lead us on virtual tour of Iraqi history, customs, rituals, and music through visuals, songs, and music.
About Rahel Musleah:
Rahel Musleah is a Calcutta born New York based Jewish journalist, author, singer, speaker, and educator. Her articles have appeared in The New York Times, Hadassah Magazine, and numerous other publications. Her CD of Shabbat and holiday melodies is called Hodu: Jewish Rhythms from Baghdad to India. She is looking forward to resuming her twice yearly live tours to India. Visit her website at http://explorejewishindia.com to find out about events and tours.
