Rabbi Sarah Bassin & Sandy Silas: PURPLE - Improving Political Discourse

Rabbi Sarah Bassin
PURPLE: America We Need to Talk
Sandy Silas

Please join us as we watch the short documentary "PURPLE" together
and then discuss ways to improve our political discourse

At a time of immense division, PURPLE tells the story of Americans with opposing viewpoints who confront their disagreements head-on and discover the concerns and experience that lie behind each other's positions. As the presidential election and its aftermath fan the flames of already-volatile divisions, PURPLE offers a vision for what a healthy public debate on fault-line issues might look like.

Rabbi Sarah Bassin and ChaiVillageLA member Sandy Silas will talk about the documentary and model ways to build greater empathy and recognition in the face of deepening divides in our country. They will demonstrate how to engage in conversations that uplift and inspire while going to the heart of political differences.

About Rabbi Sarah Bassin:
Rabbi Sarah Bassin, Associate Rabbi of Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills, is a pluralist at her core, believing that we always have something to learn from those who are different than us--whether religiously, culturally, politically, or even Jewishly. With this passion to engage difference, Rabbi Bassin has reinvigorated Temple Emanuel's young professionals community and  the synagogue's work in social justice.

About Sandy Silas:
Sandy Silas, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice for the past 50 years. She was the Clinical Director at The Maple Counseling Center in Beverly Hills and has run countless workshops focused on couples, individuals and parenting. Sandy worked in independent schools through the LA area teaching Sex Education. She ran ChaiVillageLA's training program for three years.
