Film Discussion: Two Women's Stories of the Great Recession





Our movie discussion will focus on the impact of the Great Recession on the lives of two women.

Wendy & Lucy (2008) describes the experiences of an unemployed homeless woman. She encounters difficulties in Oregon  while on  a cross-country journey with her dog while in search of work.

Nomadland ( 2020), starring Frances McDormand, has been touted as a possible 2021 Oscar winner.  It is the story of  a woman who, after losing everything she has, embarks on a journey through the American West living as a van-dwelling nomad.


Please watch the movies in advance.  How to view them:

Wendy & Lucy is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video and also on DVD from the  Los Angeles Public Libraries system (LAPL.org).

Please note that Nomadland is available to stream only on HULU. You can take advantage of HULU's free one-week trial to watch Nomadland. After watching the film, you can decide whether you wish to continue HULU or cancel.
