Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh-About Allan Sherman

Everyone knows American parodist Allan Sherman’s “Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh.”  In this special presentation with music historian Cary Ginell, we’ll hear stories about Sherman’s tumultuous career, including the stories behind favorites such as “Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh” and “Sarah Jackman” as well as Jewish-flavored parodies you might not have heard including “There Is Nothing Like a Lox” (from “South Passaic”), “Smog Gets In Your Eyes,” and “Seventy-Six Sol Cohens (at the Country Club).”

About Cary

Cary Ginell is a Grammy-nominated writer and music historian who has published 12 books on American music. After a 30-year career in public radio, where he produced documentaries and played music from his sizable archive of historic recordings, Ginell has since turned his attention to teaching and lecturing in both adult education courses and on cruise ships. Ginell, who lives in Thousand Oaks, California with his wife Gail, received his master’s degree in folklore from UCLA and recently served as president of the Association for Recorded Sounds Collections (ARSC). Currently, he serves as a board member for the Coordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations. He is a member of the congregation at Temple Adat Elohim in Thousand Oaks, where he plays flute in the Band of Milk and Honey.
